Head of British Agency Recognized as World Leader Shares Perspective at Patient Safety Forum on Mental Health

Healthcare Providers and the Public Invited to Share Views May 5, 2010

May 3, 2010 (Winnipeg, MB): On Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Boniface Research Centre, 351 Taché Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Manitoba Institute for Patient Safety and the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) will co-host a public forum for patient safety in Mental Health. The event is supported by the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA).

The central forum speaker will be Dr. Ben Thomas, the Director of Mental Health and Learning Disability for the National Patient Safety Agency, Department of Health, England and National Health Service, United Kingdom. Dr. Thomas will provide his insights and experiences in creating programs and initiatives that have helped make the agency a world leader in patient safety in mental healthcare.

Winnipeg (Manitoba) — Le 3 mai 2010. L’Institut pour la sécurité des patients du Manitoba (ISPM) et l’Ordre des infirmières et des infirmiers psychiatriques du Manitoba organisent un forum public sur la sécurité des personnes atteintes de troubles mentaux, qui aura lieu le mercredi 5 mai 2010 à 18 h 30, au Centre de recherche de l’Hôpital général Saint-Boniface (351, avenue Taché, Winnipeg). Le forum bénéficie du soutien de l’Office régional de la santé de Winnipeg (ORSW).

Le conférencier principal est le Dr Ben Thomas, directeur de la santé mentale et des troubles d’apprentissage de la National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) du ministère de la Santé du Royaume-Uni. Il présentera ses idées et ses expériences de la mise en oeuvre de programmes et de mesures qui ont aidé la NPSA à devenir un chef de file mondial de la sécurité des patients dans le secteur des soins de santé mentale.

May 3, 2010 (Winnipeg, MB): On the evening of Wednesday, May 5, 2010, the Manitoba Institute for Patient Safety and the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) will co-host a public forum for patient safety in Mental Health. The event is supported by the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA).

The Removing Barriers for Recovery Forum recognizes that we all have a hand in making mental health care safer. Healthcare providers and the public are encouraged to attend and share experiences and perspectives on May 5, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Boniface Research Centre, 351 Taché Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Patient Safety Forum Gives Public and Caregivers the Chance to have Their Say in Balancing Risk and Safety in Long Term Care

Nov 6, 2009 (Winnipeg, MB): On November 12, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. the Manitoba Institute for Patient Safety (Institute) will host a public forum centered around Long Term Care (LTC). The event is co-sponsored by the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA).

Balancing the need for autonomy and safety is a significant challenge when providing long term care services to older persons. Winnipeg, Canada – New resources were launched today to help patients and families know what to expect if a critical incident occurs, announced Health Minister Theresa Oswald in partnership with the Manitoba Institute for Patient Safety, Regional Health Authorities of Manitoba and the Canadian Patient Safety Institute.
