Project Objectives

What are the Main Objectives of the Study?

  • To delineate and understand the current discharge and communication process
  • To develop multidisciplinary strategies to decrease older adults’ risk of adverse events
  • To generate a definition of an adverse event in day hospital clinical setting

What does the Day Hospital Do?

In Manitoba, community dwelling older adults are at an increased risk of negative health related outcomes and subsequently, adverse events.

The Geriatric Day Hospital is a resource available to address the health and safety needs of older adults to reduce the risk of adverse events.

Literature indicates that between 46-79% of recommendations made by the day hospitals are implemented, leaving 21–54% of recommendations not implemented potentially placing patients/clients at risk.
