Culture of Safety

• Enrolment in two Safer Healthcare Now interventions; AMI and Medication Reconciliation.
• CQI & Risk Management activities reported to Board, Senior Executive and Management team on a quarterly basis.
• Healthcare Incident Reporting System in place.
• Falls Prevention Program implemented regionally.

Infection Control

• Infection Control Nurse on staff who monitors and reports infection rates in conjunction with the MOH and Public Health.
• Regional Infection Control Policy binder developed.
• Disposal of Sharps policy.
• Community Sharps program initiated.
• Pandemic Planning Committee involves community partners.
• Negative Pressure Rooms (3) constructed at Thompson General Hospital with another 2 in the plans for the new Hemodialysis Unit.
• Participation in the Provincial Hand Hygiene initiative.
• Training for Long Term Care surveillance in January for regional staff.
• Public Health has displays on Infection Control during Influenza Immunization clinics, both for staff and the public.
• Single-use policy in place for all single-use medical devices.
• Infection Control Nurse provides ongoing education sessions for staff throughout the region.

Prevention of Adverse Drug Events

• Concentrated electrolytes removed from all patient/client care units.
• High Risk Medication Stickers are utilized.
