Olga Heath, PhD, RPsych

Olga Heath is a Registered Psychologist with over 20 years of psychology experience in clinical and management roles in the health care system. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Memorial University holding a joint appointment with the University Counselling Centre and the Faculty of Medicine, Division of Community Health and Humanities. She has been involved in IPE research and education with particular emphasis on practice related initiatives for over 4 years in her work CCHPE.

Some of the projects Olga has led include:

  • Development, implementation and evaluation of the incorporation of collaborative practice and patient safety into practice based learning for the schools of medicine, pharmacy, social work and nursing
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of an intervention designed to increase collaboration and safe patient care with particular reference to interprofessional transfer of patient information in practicing inpatient teams in partnership with the Regional Health Authority
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of post licensure interprofessional training on collaborative practice in mental health with a particular focus on rural communities

She is currently conducting research in the following areas:

  • Team functioning, collaboration and patient safety
  • Impact of interprofessional education interventions with a focus on patient safety on student attitude and knowledge in practice settings
  • Impact of continuing interprofessional education on health professionals’ attitudes towards collaborative care, teamwork skills and change in practice.
  • Professional and undergraduate student stress, coping behaviour and help seeking
