The Western Node of Safer Healthcare Now! and the Division of General Surgery at the Foothills Medical Centre, Alberta Health Services in Calgary, Alberta, are co-hosting this inspirational presentation by Dr Bryce Taylor.

Dr. Bryce Taylor is the co-author of: A Surgical Safety Checklist to Reduce Morbidity and Mortality in a Global Population, New England Journal of Medicine Volume 360: 491-499, January 29, 2009 Number 5. The study was led by Atul A. Gawande for the World Health Organization (WHO) Safe Surgery Saves Lives Study Group.

This presentation will provide the attendees:

  • A greater understanding of how the WHO Checklist was implemented
  • How the University Health Network in Toronto implemented the checklist in their surgical suites
  • A discussion with Dr. Taylor on impact, study findings and limitations
  • Launch of a Surgical Network across Western Canada coordinated by the Western Node of Safer Healthcare Now!
